Rog: The melodious malady

One thing that has been characteristic of Pooja Bhatt ’s films, ever since she began directing movies, is their out-of-ordinary music that is soft, lilting and also rich in melody.

Pooja’s forthcoming film ‘ Rog ’ is an intense love story with an element of a psychological crime thriller. The film stars Irfaan Khan and South African model Ilene Hamman in the leading roles.

The music of the film, by M. M. Kreem , has a good range from soft ghazal-like songs to erotic numbers.

The highlights of the album are the opening track Maine Dil Se Kaha, which is a finely composed soft number with some thought provoking lyrics by Nilesh Mishra, and the romantic number Tere Is Jahaan Mein which has a nocturnal feel, thanks to impressive musical arrangement by Kreem. Both the songs have been sung by KK, who justifies the compositions with his deft and emotive singing.

Another impressive number in the album is the ghazal Khoobsurat, a soft and melodious number sung by the music composer himself and written by Mishra. There is a repeat of this song later in the album. Udit Narayan sings the second version.

The album also has two instrumental tracks – firstly, the ‘Rog Theme’ which is composed, arranged and mixed by Jaideep, Kurt and Samrat. And secondly, ‘Sufani’ which carries the touch of lounge music written and produced by Gaudi.

In short, the music of ‘Rog’ is a welcome change from the soppy romantic tracks or heavy ear-torturing item numbers one gets to hear in Bollywood films nowadays. M M Kreem’s compositions are melodious and gentle while Nilesh’s lyrics are poetic and thought provoking.
