There is good news for those who miss the soulful voices of singing legends Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle .
The coming weeks will see the release of Asha Bhosle’s self-titled ghazal album ‘Asha’, which is a tribute to the four ghazal maestros - Mehdi Hasan, Ghulam Ali, Farida Khannum and Jagjit Singh.
Lata’s album, on the other hand, will have original ghazals composed by her protégé Mayuresh Pai. The album is still in the process of being completed.
Lata had previously worked with Mayuresh Pai on an album of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's poems.
Both Lata and Asha have sung countless songs for Hindi films in their prime. However, the two have been off the major singing scene for quite some years now. Lata last sang a song Kitne Ajeeb Rishte for this year’s hit Page 3 .
“We both need to build our creative energies in areas other than films. Asha has always been a very good ghazal singer,” Lata Mangeshkar is quoted as saying.
Asha Bhosle has sung some of her unforgettable ghazals for the music director Khayyam in Muzaffar Ali’s movie Umrao Jaan.
Her album ‘Asha’ will be released by Sa Re Ga Ma HMV.
