Famous Indian choreographer Shiamak Davar entertained South Africans in his first musical show ‘Spirit of Dance’ in Durban on Monday.
The show, held at Durban’s International Convention Centre, had Shiamak and his troupe performing to songs from Bollywood films, fusion tracks and famous rock n’ roll numbers.
The show had a spectacular combination of light effects with sounds, music and dance steps of the performers. Various ingredients gelled in beautifully and the show seemed like a symphony of sound, dance, colour and light.
From the start, the audience responded spiritedly to the show that began with the number Ave Maria followed by a volley of Broadway and western numbers.
Dances were also performed to fusion numbers featuring a medley of tabla-dominated Kathak and jazz drum-led western dance.
However, the best performance of the show was the creative item that was inspired by the film Black .
The show also featured the mellow track Suraj Hua Maddham and the Queen hit ‘I Want To Break Free’.
