Directed by K. Raghavendra Rao �Aamdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiya� is a light-hearted film that deals with the daily problems of basic subsistence faced by a common man.

At the center of the film's story are three characters Ravi (Chandrachud), Vijay (Vinay Anand) and Appu (Johny Lever) - all neighbors and small time mechanics who work in the same motor garage. There is only one driving force in their lives - money. No matter how well off anyone of them are, one can always find them attempting to make an easy buck.

Their wives Meena (Tabu), Anjali (Isha Koppikar) and Vimla (Ketaki Dave) are the typical Indian housewives who try to pitch in with their contributions to supplement their husband's meager income.

Their world changes when Bhim (Govinda) and his chirpy wife Jhumri (Juhi) come to live in the neighborhood. Bhim and Jhumri's unconventional lifestyle raises many a brow in the colony. Everyone is awestruck to see Jhumri going out to work while Bhim does all the household chores like washing and cooking.

Jhumri becomes a new source of inspiration for Meena, Anjali and Vimla. The trio begins to contemplate swapping roles with their good-for-nothing husbands. Tired of the daily grind, the wives begin to look forward to getting a job like Jhumri.

The idea raises an alarm among the chauvinistic husbands whose big egos would not let their wives go out and work. But the wives are hell-bent on emulating Jhumri's example. What happens next is an interesting medley of comedy, domestic feud, separation and the ultimate reunion.

Though it is not an out-and-out comedy, the film is based on a light-hearted story that bristles with moments of humor coming from none other than our Virar ka chokra Govinda who along with the bubbly Juhi steal the show.

On the other hand, Chandrachud and Tabu fail to deliver anything commendable or worth writing home about.

Vinay Anand and Isha Koppikar go unnoticed in a role that did not offer any histrionic challenges. Johny Lever overdoes his comic act at times straying into his usual hamming routine.
