The Double Cross Movie Review |

Truly Ek Dhoka
By Aparajita Ghosh
Rating: 0.5/5
Sex and suspense go well together. Hot Norwegian babe Nigar Khan and her estranged husband Sahil Khan are out to titillate movie buffs in director Sabir's film Double Cross - Ek Dhoka.
When Nigar Khan plays a stripper in a movie it is bound to raise curiosity, apart from other things, of course. And cast opposite her ex-hubby Sahil (who plays a gigolo), Nigar goes uninhibited and displays her anatomy in the ways seldom seen in Bollywood. Titillation being guaranteed, the movie's director and writer (Shashi Vadiya) throw some suspense in the story to add some thrills. Sex is there. Thrills are there. But substance! - conspicuously missing.
Story:
As the monologue in the beginning of the movie says, the story is based on real life incidents.
Sahil (Sahil Khan) is an uneducated man from Punjab who gets to marry Sonia (Ayesha Julka), a modern woman settled in Cape Town. The village bumpkin from Punjab transforms into a suave, stylish man the moment he sets foot in Cape Town.
Sahil has a shapely body, something many women would die for. So his wife Sonia compels him to work as a male prostitute in order to make enough money so that he can provide for his poor parents back home in Punjab. Sahil resists initially, but when Sonia confiscates his passport, he knows he has little choice and agrees to her demands.
As a gigolo, Sahil sleeps with all kinds of women - Asians, Europeans - while Sonia neatly handles the clientele and often sends him for special visits to London. It is during one of these visits Sahil meets Nigar (Nigar Khan) who works as a stripper.
Sahil and Nigar click immediately and fall in love. Nigar also obliges one of her clients with a sexual favor in return for something that will free Sahil from his dominating wife's control.
Meanwhile, Sonia has a change of heart and decides to treat her husband a little humanely. But it is too late by then and the rift between Sahil and Sonia only widens.
Then one day, Sonia is found raped and murdered. The rest of the movie is just the unraveling of the mystery behind Sonia's killing.
At the outset, 'Double Cross' may look like a thrilling entertainer, but the movie in reality offers nothing more than just titillation. The murder and the proceedings leading to the movie's lackluster climax seem like a farce - a tacky façade to sell sex in the name of entertainment.
Need it be said that Nigar Khan doesn't disappoint when it comes to flaunting anatomy and shedding clothes before the camera. The girl is simply hot. Oomph and sex scream out of every atom of her flesh. Good acting is simply not to be expected from her. And she lives upto these realistic expectations in the movie.
Sahil Khan is comfortable in acting - particularly in his lovemaking scenes with women. The guy has an excellent body but an underdeveloped histrionic range. But who asks for that in a movie like 'Double Cross'?
In short, 'Double Cross' rides solely on Nigar Khan's supple anatomy and Sahil's brawny physique. The movie is an eye-candy titillator with ample doses of sex and lovemaking scenes. The story, no matter how complex and skewed, is simply a lousy excuse.
