Nana, Amit Shine in patriotic potboiler

RATING: 6

Kohram is another film that tries to cash in on the patriotic sentiment generated by the Kargil war. The movie has a star-studded cast but fails to live up to expectations.

Colonel Balbir Singh Sodhi (Amitabh Bachchan) and Major Rathod (Jackie Shroff) accomplish a difficult mission. They incur the wrath of Minister Virbhadra Singh (Danny Denzongpa) resulting in the death of Major Rathod.

To avenge Rathod's death Balbir attempts unsuccessfully to kill Virbhadra Singh. He meets with an accident while fleeing, and is declared dead.

Three years later, Brigadier Bedi (Kabir Bedi) comes across a man called Dada Bhai alias Devraj Hathoda who looks just like Balbir Singh. A doubt crosses Bedi's mind that Balbir Singh might not be dead. To clear his doubt he appoints Major Ajit Arya (Nana Patekar) to find out the real identity of Dada Bhai.

Ajit Arya comes to the city where Dada Bhai lives, disguised as a journalist. He tries every trick in the book to prove that Dadabhai is Balbir Sigh but fails miserably. Ajit feels that all that he sees and hears is not the whole truth. He sets out to find out the real fact. He comes face to face with the truth that is startling and bizarre.

Ajit and Brigadier Bedi come to know the real identity of Minister Virbhadra Singh. They join forces to fight against Virbhadra and his henchmen.

The film is good in the first half but the second half is a bit jarringly edited. The climax is pedestrian. The music is just okay.

Mehul Kumar's direction is average. A lackluster script does not help it either..

Nana Patekar is, as usual, brilliant. Nana has rendered a good comedy. And, perhaps for the first time, he has danced around trees with Tabu.

Amitabh Bachchan is once again brilliant in the role of Dada Bhai

Tabu's performance as Inspector Kiran shows her class. Danny Denzongpa and others have not much to do.

The film is a must see for all Nana Patekar fans.
