The Zokkomon Movie Review

Strictly for bachcha log

The ApunKaChoice movie review of Zokkomon. If you have been waiting for an intelligent kids’ movie, Zokkomon may not be the answer but it does pack in a few thrills for the bachcha log.

Directed by the first-timer Satyajit Bhatkal, the film borrows scraps from the Hollywood movies like Harry Potter or Matilda to weave a story of an orphan kid Kunal (Darsheel Safary) who suffers at the hands of his avaricious and wily uncle (played by Anupam Kher).

Kunal is made to shift from his boarding school to a village school run by his uncle where the rod is not spared, lest the kids get spoilt. On top of it, the evil uncle pockets all the money meant for the kids.

Kunal is the uncle’s new target. He is taken to the city and abandoned there. The uncle proves that Kunal is dead and lines up his pockets. But the kid, aided by a crazy scientist (Kher again in an almost unrecognizable get-up), makes a comeback as a masked superhero, who does gravity defying stunts and punishes his villain of an uncle.

The film’s plot follows no logic or common sense but is given to random twists and turns just to make the proceedings livelier. It’s a clichéd good vs evil superhero template that does pack in a small message as well.

Darsheel Safary isn’t really in form this time around, but the kids won’t mind seeing him whizzing around in the superhero makeover. Manjari Phadnis does leave a mark in a scene or two but it’s Anupam Kher, both as the uncle and the scientist, who steals the show with his performance.

In short, Zokkomon is a film strictly for kids.
